Cash Mob at Oliva Oils and Vinegars
The Guilderland Chamber of Commerce hosted their first Cash Mob on Tuesday, November 24th at 11am at Oliva Gourmet Olive Oils and Vinegar’s, located in Stuyvesant Plaza.
The Cash Mob is an effort part of the GuilderLocal programming to get customers through the doors of local retail businesses.
“We figured this would be perfect timing with Small Business Saturday coming up on the 28th. We want our businesses to know that we are trying to get the community to use them, and we make a tried and true effort to get people in the local stores, ones that they may not have known are right here in our town.”
Cash mobs are much like the uplifting flash mobs that are light hearted and spontaneous. The group arrived to one location at the same time to buy goods in order to give a quick boost to the store. The group arrived unannounced at 11am to browse and purchase items and surprised owner Kathy Connelly, who was there as the lone employee for the day.
“Kathy was a really great sport and took the group of people arriving at the same time in stride!” Gauthier said.
Gauthier went to say that “We are hoping to do more cash mobs soon in the area to really get our GuilderLocal efforts out there. We are also implementing other programming to help those businesses who don’t have customers, but have clients, or other businesses as a base, and provide services instead of items. We have a lot of great things in store soon, but this so far has worked out great and I cannot wait to do another one in the days ahead.”
Gauthier hopes that more members and community members will be on board for more cash mobs and that these cash mobs will be used as a way to draw more attention for our local businesses.
