18 - 10:00am, CM Fox building 2390 Western Ave (upstairs)Protect the skin you're in... May is Skin Cancer Awareness month. Per the American Academy of Dermatology, currently one in five adult Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime.  In addition, melanoma rates have been increasing for at least 30 years and it is predicted that by 2015, one in 50 Americans will develop melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer. Come listen to Dr. Robert Shoss M.D. from Albany Dermatology talk about strategies we can take to protect the skin and reduce the risk of developing this sometimes deadly and often disfiguring disease.  He will also talk about how we can promote overall skin wellness and maintain its youthful glow throughout a lifetime.  Contact: Meghan Tracey at 518.867.4248 to RSVP as this will fill up quickly!

21 - The Library's 2013/2014 budget is up for vote on Tuesday, May 21, and polls - at your local Elementary School -- are open from 7 am until 9 pm. To get information on the Library's budget, please see your copy of the Library's newsletter - "The Budget Issue" -- that arrived in your mail the week of May 6. Or you can go to www.guilpl.org/budget; while there, be sure to check out the Library Value Calculator so you can see just how much you save every month by using Guilderland's Public Library.

The big surprise is that often, they really aren’t trying to give you a hard time and don’t even know they have that impact. 12 - The Guilderland Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner, at Mallozzis Clubhouse at Western Turnpike Golf Course.  The event will include a cocktail hour beginning at 5:30pm, dinner, then a keynote presentation by nationally-known business consultant Judi Clements entitled "Even if You're on the Right Track, You'll Get Run Over if You Just Sit There!" to follow. Chamber Business and Town Beautification awards will be handed out by the Chamber Board, Town Supervisor Runion, and Altamont Mayor Gaughan.  Elected officials like Albany County Supervisor Dan McCoy, US Congressman Tonko, and others also extend their congratulations to the winners at the dinner. $65 per person, reserve here online.
