The Albany County Legislature has introduced legislation that affects small businesses, particularly restaurants and cafes. Local Law S, introduced by Christopher Higgins, would ban the use of polystyrene (foam) by food service establishments, forcing businesses to buy costlier alternatives. Paper and compostable products can cost up to 3 times as much as foam, are less efficient, and currently not accepted in local recycling. A ban would add to operating costs.

Each month the Albany County Legislature holds its Legislative Hearing. Information for future meetings can be found on their website. The next meeting is January 9 at 6:30 PM on the 2nd floor of the Albany County Court House where they hold an open public forum. Registration begins at 6 PM. Come out and let your voice be heard.
